My friend is a BE Mechanical with one and a half years experience in quality control field. He has completed ASNDT level 2 certification. He has got a job offer at Singapore with basic pay 700 SGD and extra overtime wages daily. Accomodation is given by the company apart from this pay. They also promised to provide travelling expense. My question is is this job offer quite acceptable? Please give your input so that we could decide how to proceed further.

In Singapore usually pay packages include the use of car and the only expense you have to pay is gas. Is the $700 spd per week? Since you don't have to pay rent you may be able to make a go of it, but Singapore is expensive and the taxes are fairly hefty. Somebody has to pay for the government camera in your apartment buildings elevator to catch people doing naughty things in the elevator (I'm not joking). Travelling expense is usually for vacation since anywhere you go you have to fly. See if travelling expense also includes the use of a car. Even though you can't drive very far in Singapore — Indonesia won't let cars through the border — the use of a car is usuall part of the pay package. You might want to negotiate that because cars cost more than twice than they do here. Btw, Yahoo does have an active Singapore website — SG.YAHOO.COM. They have message boards instead of questions, but if you ask your questions at Yahoo! Singapore, you'll get good answers from the people there.

  2. This is a good offer. But it also depends on the financial situation of your friend and whether he wants to go. It's Better to take some, time think over it and decide.
