Singapore is much more expensive than other South-East Asian countries which may come as a shock if you are travelling on a shoestring budget. You can still stay here, though, without spending too much money if you can forego the temptation to run amok in the shops or indulge in luxuries you may have craved while travelling in less developed Asian countries. It's possible to stay in Singapore for under US$20 a day, if you stay in hostels and eat cheaply. If you're staying in mid-range hotels and eating at good restaurants, US$70 is a more realistic daily minimum.
All major credit cards are widely accepted, although you're not going to make yourself too popular after a hard bargaining session for a new camera if you then try to pay for it with your Visa card. ATMs are widespread, although it's probably still a good idea to take cash and travellers' cheques for emergencies. You'll find moneychangers in shopping centres all over Singapore.
Tipping is not usual in Singapore: expensive hotels and restaurants may impose a 10% service charge, and a gratuity is not expected in excess of this. Bargaining is falling by the wayside, but tourists should still expect to haggle for luxury items and souvenirs. It is unnecessary to bargain for everyday goods or transport.

Rooms Availability Update (09 Sep 2008)
From the feedback by the hotels, we understand that there are still some hotel rooms available in the month of September in Singapore. As such, if you have not made your booking, please do so immediately.
For the months of October to December, we are expecting very high hotel room demand as many have shelved their plans to visit Singapore in the September due to F1 Singapore. If you have confirmed your visit to Singapore, you are strongly urged to make your booking immediately.
Rooms Availability Update (15 Aug 2008)
In September, Singapore will be hosting the first night race of the Formula 1 racing circuit. As such, there are huge surcharges for rooms during that period. If you require to book rooms during that period, you may book as usual. We will advise you of the surcharges, and if you are not comfortable with the surchages, you are free to cancel it without penalties. *

There are a few places in Singapore such as Bugis, Chinatown and Little India at Serangoon Road provide backpacker lodgings. Among the 3 Little India has more of such facilities where you can compare prices and they should be able to meet your budget.
Another place to check is the Uniquely Singapore Official website. Have a nice day and enjoy your stay here!

They have some budget hotels that would somewhat fit into your price range. Most of their hotels are in the Geylang area where you can also find low cost restaurants etc.
Check their website and send an email to them if you find their prices right for you. Usually, due to the low cost and clean but functional rooms, they are heavily booked around the year.
