im an assistant engineer and i have calculated i dont have savings for this year due to high cost of living in SINGAPORE and i wont have any either even if the company goives me my current salary.
the only way is to die as i have calculated when i am old i would only have rice porridge and some fried eggs with a slice of pork from a can at every meal!
i am not married but have decades of work experience and have plenty of engineering upgrading and training.i have sacrificed my years of weekends and social life in order to take courses and work.
after all my years of losing my youth,my hardwork,my sacrifice….i have not obtained any significant results. my reward is a salary that seems to be declining as years go by with the companies i am moving out of singapore.
i have insufficient funds for any retirement as a singaporean and i dont need to be an old man or evil genius to perceive that.
the foreign workers retire in luxury while i retire in a shoe box.
help?

The Gapminder World 2006, beta, shows that Singapore is better off than almost anywhere else in Asia except Japan, and in many ways better than the US, especially health care and other issues of old age.
Looking at improvement over time, Singapore has improved five times as much as the US, and looks like despite recent setbacks may continue to do so, thus passing the US in that aspect as well.
The other countries have a lower cost of living, but unless you have a nest egg to live on there without ever working, you will be trapped at their income levels as well and also with their medical access etc that are not as good as Singapore.
I have know folk who thought to retire to a third world country because it was cheaper, only to discover that when they ran out of money they were no better off than the other peasants there, which was much worse than in the US as bad as the worst of that can be.

When a computer has problems, often the best way to handle the problem is to turn off the computer. Perhaps, what you need to do is stop what you are doing and "restart" your life. Clearly, if you don't have enough money to live in Singapore, then you shouldn't be living in Singapore. You aren't married so do everything you can to move, I think India and China are still looking for qualified people and the cost of living is much lower in either country. For that matter the cost of living is lower just about everywhere outside of Singapore. Get Out Now!

as for the charts and statistics….they are not to be trusted at all especially if they originate from the country in question….no one could be that stupid or gullible in any part of the world to believe figures without authencity!
if the inhabitants of a country says its not survivable anymore then u have to take it from there and not some figures from people or governments that are out of sync or in their deepest illusions of governance.
there are many average tourists who came in here from usa and developed countries to singaporeand one of them i found out was actually begging money over the internet in order to maintain his website.
stop believing figures thats meant to boost up any organisation and start hearing if the humans are able to take life in singapore.
if a company was losing money and going bust would u expect it to advertise the truth? in fact company would advertise with charts and figures that its stocks n shares are rising and its worth more than it really is!
